A long history

The Landa family’s vocation for hospitality began in the early twentieth century, first at Madrid’s Real Club Puerta de Hierro and later at La Perla in San Sebastián until the 1930s, followed by La Gran Taberna in Madrid.

In 1959 Landa opened as a small roadside restaurant, classical and Castilian in character, two kilometres outside Burgos. Travellers driving north from Madrid along a difficult national road would stop here to rest and recover.

The hotel was inaugurated in 1964 and gradually took shape over the years— the tower, the pool and the square were added — and it became one of the first Relais & Châteaux properties in Spain.

A fourteenth-century defensive tower was carefully moved from the nearby village of Albillos, twenty kilometres from Burgos, and rebuilt stone by stone. It has remained the emblem of Landa ever since.

Its development was always conceived and overseen by its founders, Jesús Landa and Carmela Vicente, whose commitment and affection turned it into something that was never merely a business.
Since then, the second and third generations have ensured that this spirit endures.
